Introducing Frozen CSR: Your Rating, Locked for Fair Play
Hello, CompuSport Champions! 🏆
We've been listening to your feedback, and today we're thrilled to introduce one of the most requested improvements to the CompuSport Rating system: Frozen CSR (F-CSR) and Manual CSR (M-CSR).
Alongside this, we're also improving how ratings are displayed in the app, especially during gameplay, so they better reflect what actually impacts your matches.
If you've ever wondered "Which rating is being used for my event registration?" or felt like a player's displayed rating didn't quite match their impact in a game, this update is for you.
What Is The Frozen CSR?
Your CompuSport Rating (CSR) is always evolving based on your results. That's great for tracking your progress, but it can create surprises when you're registering for events.
Frozen CSR (F-CSR) is a snapshot of your rating taken on a specific date chosen by the event organizer. Think of it as your rating "frozen in time". It is the number used for registration and division placement in that event, no matter what happens to your live CSR afterward.
Manual CSR (M-CSR) is a rating that an event manager can assign to you directly for a specific event. This is used in special situations, for example if you're new and don't have an established CSR yet, or if an adjustment is needed for eligibility. When an M-CSR is set, it takes priority over both your live CSR and any frozen value.
Your official CSR continues to evolve normally based on your results. F-CSR and M-CSR only apply to the specific events they're set for.
Why Does This Matter?
Before this update, your division placement could shift between the time you registered and when the event actually started. A hot streak or a tough week could bump you into a different division without warning.
With Frozen CSR, the playing field is locked in advance. Everyone's rating is captured on the same date, so your placement is fair and predictable.
If your situation is unique, your event manager can use M-CSR to make sure you're in the right spot.
What Managers Can Do in the Manager App
Frozen CSR and Manual CSR are not just player-facing improvements. They also give event organizers better tools to lock event rules early, handle exceptions with confidence, and keep rating-based decisions consistent from registration to gameplay.
Set the event rules up front
In the Manager App, organizers can open the Sport Event editor and use Frozen CSR Settings to define how the event should behave before play begins. That includes using Set Frozen CSR Date to lock ratings on the right day, setting an MCSR Tolerance to flag larger differences for review and using Link Frozen CSR Events to connect related events.
Keep placement and handicaps aligned
The priority order is simple: M-CSR first, then F-CSR, then live CSR. That keeps registration eligibility and division placement predictable, and when the event is configured that way, handicaps can follow that same order too.
More Accurate Ratings in Games (T-CSR)
We've also improved how ratings are displayed in the games listing.
Previously, the app displayed your CSR. With this update, it now shows your T-CSR (Temporary CSR) instead.
Why the change?
The CSR reflects your performance over time. It updates weekly and is based on your last 12 weeks of play.
The T-CSR updates after every game and reflects your current form in real time.
This distinction matters because match rating changes are calculated using T-CSR, not CSR.
In some cases, a player's CSR can diverge from their current T-CSR. When that happens, the rating shown in the games listing can make a player's impact look inconsistent or harder to understand.
By displaying T-CSR instead, the app now reflects more faithfully the rating that is actually driving game results.
What this means for you
- More accurate representation: The rating shown better reflects a player's current level
- More consistent match impact: What you see aligns with how rating changes are calculated
- Less confusion: Player performance and outcomes feel more intuitive
What You'll See in the App
CSR Notice Alerts
When you open an event that uses Frozen CSR, you'll see a clear CSR Notice banner at the top explaining exactly what's happening.
You can dismiss the alert once you've read it. It won't keep bugging you.
F-CSR and M-CSR Labels
Wherever your CSR is displayed, including player cards, match details, and opponent views, you'll now see clear labels indicating whether the value shown is your live CSR, F-CSR, or M-CSR. No more guessing which number is being used.
CSR Chart Markers (Premium)
Your CSR history chart now includes visual markers showing exactly when your rating was frozen for an event. Each marker displays the event icon and the freeze date, helping you connect your rating history to specific events.
Frozen CSR Lookup Page
There's a brand-new F-CSR & M-CSR page in the app where you can browse all the events where your rating was frozen or manually set. You can explore it by player or by event, making it easy to see everything at a glance.
Key Benefits
- No surprises: Your division placement is locked on a specific date
- More accurate gameplay: T-CSR reflects real-time performance in matches
- Full transparency: You always know which rating is being used and why
- Fair for everyone: All players are evaluated on the same frozen rating
- Better understanding: Ratings now align more clearly with match outcomes
